The Wheels On The Bus : Action Song

July 7, 2021 By Sara Mullett 9 Comments

There’s a reason why The Wheels on the Bus is on every playgroup’s favourite list; the lively actions never fail to get everyone joining in!

Little toddlers are often able to grasp the simple and repetitive actions well before they can join in with the words, and for the older ones there’s plenty of opportunity to improvise with all sorts of extra passengers and actions – from Crocodiles to Grannies knitting!

While it’s a great song for a big group, it can also come in handy when you’re travelling or stuck in traffic. Why not try adding faster and slower to the verses or loud and soft too, for more contrast. Children love contrasting opposites and will easily grasp these concepts when demonstrated with the actions of noisy children or sleeping babies.

When my kids were small they had a toy bus and we would sing this song while driving it around the house and collecting as many passengers as we could cram in! Anything and everything would get squeezed in!

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

round and round, round and round.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

A-ll  da-y  lo-ng!

*

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish etc.

The doors on the bus go open and shut, open and shut etc.

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep etc.

The children on the bus go chatter, chatter, chatter etc.

The people on the bus bounce up and down, up and down etc.

The babies on the bus go fast asleep, fast asleep, fast asleep etc.

(and any other actions you can think of!)

      Hi,

This sheet music has been saved as a jpeg. Click on the image and when it opens in an enlarged view, right click and save as a download, then you will be able to print a copy. The print quality will not be very sharp, but should be good enough for using for educational purposes. Have fun with it!

Appreciate your printing the musical notes for The Wheels on the Bus. My grandson, 2 years, 3 months and I had a good time singing and playing it on the piano. I needed the notes to play it correctly and I appreciate your help in getting it done.
