All children love teddies and every child usually has an impressive array of much loved bears of all shapes and sizes. Six Teddy Bears Asleep In Bed is one of the best counting songs, as it is a perfect way to practice counting while making use of the teddy collection at the same time.
Sing this song with as many teddies as you like as long as you don’t mind singing lots of verses!
Start the song with putting all the bears to bed under a blanket, you can even sing them a little lullaby to make sure they’re all asleep first. Then one by one as they fall out of bed, ask the children to help you count how many teddies there are remaining.
As they ‘fall’ out of bed, you can make them jump into the arms of the children, making sure that everyone has a teddy to cuddle by the end of the song.
Six Teddy Bears Asleep In Bed
*
Six teddy bears asleep in bed,
Six teddy bears with sleepy heads,
One teddy bear fell out of bed,
How many teddy bears were left in bed?
(Count 1, 2 ,3, 4, 5!)
*
Five teddy bears asleep in bed, etc.
( repeat counting down in this way until there is only one teddy left)
*
The last teddy bear asleep in bed,
The last teddy bear with a sleepy head,
Then the teddy bear fell out of bed,
How many teddy bears were left in bed?
NONE!
Once everyone has a bear to cuddle, it is fun to sing all the other teddy bear nursery rhymes and songs you know, before putting them safely back to bed.
