Little Miss Muffet is a lovely traditional Nursery Rhyme that is catchy and easy to sing. I have always found it particularly useful if children are a little worried by creepy crawlies – especially with the second verse.
Little Miss Muffet Lyrics
Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider, who sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away!
*
Little Miss Muffet came back to her tuffet,
To finish her curds and whey,
And back came the spider, who sat down beside her
And gave her a lovely bouquet!

Little Miss Muffet activity ideas
This song lends itself best to a makeshift puppet show. It doesn’t have to be a fancy one or complex to set up – but really does bring the song to life.
What you need
- A dolly
- A bowl and spoon
- Pretend spider
- Some string
If you don’t have a spider toy to hand, you can easily make one out of pipe cleaners, or a combination of pipe cleaners and egg cartons.
How to play
Everyone takes turns to help Miss Muffet eat up all of her curds and whey which I always explain as yoghurt. Then another person dangles the spider beside her which makes her drop her bowl in fright and run away to hide.
Some children can be quite worried by Little Miss Muffet’s distress. Reassure them by explaining that the spider didn’t mean to frighten her. He was only hungry and that all he wanted was some of her curds and whey. Which of course they are very happy to rectify!
