Horsey Horsey Song is a lovely traditional knee bobbing song. All babies enjoy being bobbed up and down to a song on your knee, and this is the simplest way to sing this song. But you can also do some easy actions (suggested in brackets) as you’re bobbing them up and down, with wheels going round, and tails going swish!
If your baby loves knee bobbing Trot, Trot, Trot and This Is The Way The Lady Rides will also go down very well!
Horsey Horsey Don’t You Stop
Horsey Horsey don’t you stop! (slap the floor on the beat)
Just let your hooves go clip-pe-ty clop! (slap the clip-pe-ty clop!)
Your tail go swish! And your wheels go round! (swish your arm)
Gid -dy – up we’re homeward bound! (make your wheels go round)
Once children are a little older, they love exploring the different sounds that horses hooves make, with lots of clip-clops! They will also enjoy imaginative movement and pretending to be little horses. Take it in turns to provide the coconut clip clop sound effects while everyone trots around the room like a pack of little ponies.
You can check out my Horses lesson plan for inspiration on how to use Horsey Horsey! with other related activities in a music lesson.
