Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush is of course an old favourite nursery song staple.
Circle games are always so good for socialising, and this song is a great way to encourage good hygiene routines such as washing hands and brushing teeth.
Mulberry Bush Song Lyrics
Here we go round the mulberry bush,
the mulberry bush, the mulberry bush,
Here we go round the mulberry bush
on a cold and frosty morning.
**
Alternative verses: This is the way you wash your hands, brush you teeth, brush your hair, wash your face etc.
(as you sing each verse you stand and perform the appropriate action. Then join hands again and dance around in the circle for the chorus)
If you are teaching this song to small children it is a good idea to prepare by using a teddy or soft toy to help demonstrate the actions. Use a real toothbrush, hairbrush and face cloth to give the teddy a wash and brush up. Toddlers will love joining in and getting involved.
For slightly older children, Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush gives plenty of scope for improvisation. Ask them to think of new actions and verses. It is also brilliant as a piggyback song and can be easily adapted to fit in with a a wide variety of themes. Here are a few examples : Here We Go Round The Christmas Tree, Here We Go Gathering Easter Eggs or, Here We Go Gathering Rosy Apples etc.
