Down In The Jungle – Bath Time Song

February 9, 2022 By Sara Mullett 20 Comments

Down In The Jungle is an old playgroup and preschool favourite which is usually about animals washing their clothes in the jungle. But here I’ve tweaked it slightly to make it into a fun bath time song.

Down In The Jungle : Bathtime songs - Let's Play Music

Down in the jungle where nobody goes,

There’s a big fat elephant washing his toes,

With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he washes his toes!

*

(chorus)

Boom,  boom, boogie-woogie boogie-woogie,

Boom,  boom, boogie-woogie boogie-woogie,,

Rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he washes his toes!

*

Down in the jungle where there’s nobody there,

There’s a great big lion washing his hair,

With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he washes his hair!

*

(repeat chorus)

Down in the jungle, if you look in the trees,

There’s a cheeky monkey washing his knees,

With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he washes his knees!

*

(repeat chorus)

Down in the jungle if you care to check,

There’s a very tall giraffe washing his neck,

With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he washes his neck!

*

Down at the river, if you look underneath,

There’s a great big crocodile brushing his teeth,

With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,

That’s the way he brushes his teeth!

Bath time is an important part of any child’s daily routine, and it should be fun and relaxing as they wind down before bed.  Little rituals of favourite games and bath time songs can make it a useful time to learn things too.

Down In the Jungle is a great way to explore the different animals of the jungle and also naming parts of the body and personal hygiene. But this one has such a catchy tune, that everyone ends up singing it for days!

We had lots of fun making up these new verses! Why not give it a go and share yours in the comments below?

My kids are all grown up these days, but we have such fond memories of bath time! And I just saw the best idea for helping to make babies bath time easier! – This colourful Blooming Baby Bath –      It’s a soft, sponge flower that lines the baby bath, cushioning the baby and preventing slipping – so simple, but such a good idea! I just wish they were around when my kids were small.

Such a fun song! We are reading jungle animal stories in storytime next week here at the Kyle Public Library and I’d love to use this.

Definitely give credit to you for your creativity. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello,

I am a Children’s Librarian with the Jefferson Parish, LA Library System. As part of our efforts to continue to provide children with educational and entertaining programming and services during these difficult times, we are attempting to put together virtual storytimes that our patrons can access through our Facebook and YouTube social media platforms.

I would like to request your permission to use your “Down in the Jungle Bath Time Song” as part of a virtual storytime to be posted to Jefferson Parish Library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel some time between January and March. When I plan storytimes for preschool age children (3-5 year-olds), I like to include songs and fingerplays that kids and parents can do together after storytime is over. “Down in the Jungle” would be a perfect fit for an upcoming jungle storytime. Your site can be given credit in the same way that we credit the publishers of the books we read (“Sung by permission of letsplaykidsmusic.com.”) or any other way that you prefer.

Please be assured that the storytime will not be posted on a commercial basis. Measures will be taken to ensure that it will not be maintained or retained in Jefferson Parish Library’s Facebook or YouTube archive. We will locate the video and delete it once it has aired.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

    Respectfully,
    Andrea Heingarten

        Hello Sara,

I didn’t get to use “Down in the Jungle Bath Time” between January and March, but I will get to use it during our virtual programming for our Summer Reading Program. As mentioned before, we will give you credit in the video. Thanks so much again for letting me use it.

During this time of COVID19, we are doing digital storytimes. Can I get your permission to use your tunes during my storytime tomorrow? I will be zooming with Preschoolers from my school. I will not post the zoom video anywhere.

I am using this song in my K2 classes and I would like to accompany them on the piano. Do you have chords that go along with the song?

Hi Kelly, You’re in luck! I found the music and I’ve just updated the post. You should be able to print off the sheet music now. Let me know if you have any problems. Sara

Down in the jungle, if you dare to meet
There’s a super fast cheeta washing his feet.
Down in the jungle, where its kind of smelly,
There’s a big fat hippo washing his belly.
