Seashell Whispers is a lovely seashell listening game that anyone can play when you find some shells on the beach.
What you need to play the game:
- A basket with a collection of seashells enough for two each per child.
- Printable flashcards – see below.
Singing The Song
- Sing the 1st verse as you pass the basket round the circle, each child takes a shell and passes it on.
- Continue to pass the basket while you sing the 2nd verse, until each child has two shells each.
- Sing the 3rd verse as you all tap the two shells together on the beat.
- Sing the last verse as you tap the rhythm of the words as you sing.
The Seashell Listening Game
- The children are still sitting in a circle with 2 shells each.
- The teacher goes around the outside of the circle and one by one, gives each child a flashcard.
- The teacher ‘secretly’ whispers the words on the card to the child, and the child picks up the shells and repeats the words out loud while tapping the rhythm on the shells at the same time.
- When the children are familiar with the words and phrases on the cards and with tapping the rhythms, then each child can have a go at ‘being the teacher’, and going around the circle whispering the ‘seashell whispers’.
