This Pancake Day song is perfect for singing on Pancake Day!
Pancake Day is traditionally on Shrove Tuesday, the last day before the start of Lent. The idea was to use up all the eggs, butter and milk, before the beginning of the fasting period when everyone observed a very strict and plain diet. These days though, attitudes are more relaxed, and Lent is considered a time of thoughtful contemplation, rather than that of deprivation.
Happily, pancakes can also be enjoyed at any time of the year- not just on Pancake Day!
They’re a great for breakfast of course, and a nutritious snack which can magically transform rather ordinary everyday ingredients into a tasty treat. Children always love getting involved, and if you’re brave enough why not have a go at tossing them?
Here is a sweet little piggyback Pancake Day song that fits very well to the tune of “I had A Little Nut Tree” Try singing along while you have a go at tossing them!
The Pancake Day Song
We made pancakes on Tuesday,
We tossed them in the air,
One fell on the table, and
One fell on the chair.
One stuck on the ceiling, and
One fell on the grate, but
Luckily for me, then I
Caught one on my plate!
