Days of the week can be a bit tricky to learn, but luckily this song is great for helping little ones to learn not just the days of the week but also about their weekly routine too.

Days Of The Week Song
What d’you do on a Monday?
What d’you do on a Monday?
What d’you do on a Monday?
It’s day one of the week!
Oh please can you tell me?
Oh please can you tell me?
Oh what d’you do on a Monday?
Please can you tell me?
(This traditional tune is borrowed from ‘ For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow’ therefore just adjust the rhythm to fit the words.)
Once the kids are familiar with the tune, you can then go on to sing the rest of the verses as a call and response song. First of all spend a little time deciding on their particular choice of activities for each day, it’s always a good way to get everyone involved.
Of course it’s best to keep things simple for younger children, but older kids will enjoy the chance to tell you all about their weekly activities.
Sing the question verse first to each child individually, and then they can sing back telling you what they do on each day of the week. This is a great way to build up confidence with solo singing.
Here are some suggested verses below, but I’m sure the kids will come up with much more imaginative alternatives!
Days Of The Week Song
We go to school on a Monday,
We go to school on a Monday,
We go to school on a Monday,
And then come home to tea!
We go swimming on Tuesdays!
We go dancing on Wednesdays!
We play football on Thursdays!
We go to the park on a Friday!
We go shopping on Saturdays!
We go to church on a Sundays!
(the children can change the activities to suit)
