Trot, Trot, Trot! is a simple toddler song which you can sing with a horsey puppet, but best of all little ones love singing it on your knee, being jigged up and down as a knee bobbing song!
Knee Bobbing songs are great because they’re such fun and an easy way for babies and toddlers to learn to feel the beat in the music, as you bob rhythmically to the beat of the song. Once you get started, they’ll never want to stop!
Trot Trot Trot : Toddler Song
Trot, trot, trot,
Go and never stop!
Trot along my little pony!

Trot, trot, trot,
Go and never stop,
Trot along my little pony!
*
Go and never stop,
Go and never stop,
Trot, trot, trot!
Trot, trot, trot, trot!

I have an old wooden horse puppet who is perfect for this song because he has real wooden hooves that make a clippety-clop sound as he goes. Once he has trotted along to Trot, Trot, Trot, the kids can feed him an imaginary carrot.
Alternatively, if you don’t have a puppet, you could try some horsey role play, children love pretending to be horses, and you can provide your own clip clop sound effects with some coconuts! Trotting round the room pretending to be horses is a great way to blow off some steam and get kids moving!
You can check out my Horses lesson plan for inspiration on how to use Trot! Trot! Trot! with other related activities in a music lesson.
What a cute song for the little ones. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing it at Stress-Free Sunday!
Thanks Mary Catherine – and thanks for hosting!
