This Valentines Day why not try these two Musical Games!
They’re based on familiar old party games of course, so they’re absolutely guaranteed to go down well! They also have the added bonus of sneaking in some handy note recognition, but the kids don’t even seem to notice when they’re having so much fun!
Musical Hearts – How To Play
- This game is played the same way as the old favourite musical chairs.
- Place the same hearts around the room on the floor.
- Print off and laminate the Valentine’s day Note hearts below.
- Make sure that there is one put out for every child.
- Play some lively music, a polka or a march is perfect (some suggested links below).
- When the music stops, the children have to jump onto a heart.
- Each child must turn over the heart and identify the note on the reverse side.
- Then the music starts again, but you remove a heart, and then one child is out the next time.
- These two youtube videos are wonderfully lively and perfect for a fun activity like this
* People often ask what equipment I use for playing musical excerpts in music lessons. Of course if you have the original CDs you can play them with a conventional music player using a remote control for stopping and starting.
But these days the easiest way is to play them straight from youtube by using your phone or ipad and some handy bluetooth speakers. Here are two really good choices; I’d recommend the Anker Soundcore for use in most domestic situations, but these JBL Flip 4 speakers pack a bit more of punch if you’re in a bigger room.
Valentines Day NOTE HEARTS
Valentine’s Note Hunt – How To Play
- Place the hearts around the room without showing the note which is hidden on the reverse side.
- Call out each music note in turn, and each child takes turns to go and turn over one heart at a time.
- Ask them to identify the note (they can also tell you how many beats they are worth.)
- If they are correct, then they keep hold of of the card. If they’re wrong, they put it back, heart side up.
- Everyone has to try and remember where each note is located as the game continues.
- The game finishes when all cards have been collected, and the winner has the most cards.
Is there away for me to download tour music clips?
Hello! These videos are embedded externally from YouTube so I’m afraid I can’t say whether or not they are downloadable! Sorry about that.
