Close Your Eyes & Taste It! Is a great way to encourage littles ones to get involved – they can’t resist trying the tastes and really have to think about describing the different tastes in their own words.
It also introduces one of the wonderful themes from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky – The dance of The Toy Flutes.
How To Play Close Your Eyes & Taste It!
This can be played using pretend food props, or flashcards of the corresponding images, but it’s most fun when played as an actual tasting game,
- Take 4 different everyday tastes that are easily recognised – e.g lemon, cucumber, strawberry, and chocolate or cheese.
- Obviously, special care should be taken choosing the tastes and any food allergies should be checked and taken into account.
- Discuss the 4 tastes together, so that the children are prepared.
- Then blind fold each child in turn, and let them identify the four tastes, in a different order each time so they don’t know what to expect.
- Once they’ve guessed correctly, you can discuss how to describe the different tastes together.
- Then alter the words of the song to suit your own choices.
