Best Music Activities for Kids Aged 0-2 Years
Sing musical rhymes and songs with your baby from birth as often as you can. Include them in your daily routines from getting dressed to bathtime. Don’t worry about your singing voice or really singing the “right” tune. Babies aren’t fussy and singing rhymes together is one of the best ways to interact. Check out our Top 10 Tunes For Toddlers for some inspiration.
Lots of communities have music activities for kids such as rhyme time or other musical classes advertised in local libraries. It’s great for making friends and they learn so much from them. Your baby will get most out of them from about 9 months old. You can also do your own at home or with a group of friends using my lesson plans.
Collect good quality percussion instruments and a xylophone or chime bars to have as part of your toy box. They make great presents and good ones last for years. You can even invite some friends over to share your music time.
Play a variety of good quality recorded music to your child from all different genres. Click here to see our list of suggestions for where to start with the best classical tracks. I also have playlists for fairy dancing, swashbuckling pirate adventures, and marching.
Settle your little one at night time with some lovely lullabies or other soothing music. Music really does have a wonderfully calming effect and is reassuring and comforting at bedtime.
